G!LT (Offene Demokratie)
G!LT (stylised from the German "Meine Stimme G!LT" — "My Vote Counts") is an Austrian political party founded in 2016 by Roland Düringer, an actor, cabaret artist, and political commentator. The party's starting point is a critique of representative democracy as actually practiced in Austria: that elections every five years give citizens minimal real influence, and that the current system serves party machinery more than citizens.
G!LT ran in the 2017 Austrian National Council election, receiving 0.95% of valid votes — below the 4% threshold for parliamentary representation. It has continued to contest state elections, including Vorarlberg in 2024, sometimes in alliance with other small parties.
Position and caveats
G!LT is a political party with positions across multiple issues. We note it here because its explicit focus on democratic reform and citizen participation is directly relevant to DOD's remit — not because DOD endorses the party or its broader platform.
The party is connected to the broader Austrian civic tech and open democracy community, including Hubertus Hofkirchner (Prediki) who has been involved in related civic initiatives.
