Transparency International New Zealand (TINZ)
Transparency International New Zealand (TINZ) is the New Zealand chapter of the global Transparency International coalition. Its work focuses on the institutional integrity of democratic governance: lobbying transparency (New Zealand is substantially behind peers on regulating who influences policy and law), political donation reform (real-time reporting, donation caps, disclosure of beneficial ownership), limits on the use of parliamentary urgency (which bypasses select committee scrutiny and public submission), and a campaign for a beneficial ownership register to close the gap that allows opaque financial structures to be exploited.
TINZ publishes the National Integrity System assessment — a comprehensive audit of the checks and balances across New Zealand's public and private institutions — and manages New Zealand's contribution to the annual Corruption Perceptions Index. New Zealand's CPI score has dropped for four consecutive years, a 10% decline overall, triggering TINZ warnings about eroding democratic integrity. The organisation also runs a Transparent Pacific programme supporting integrity and accountability in Pacific Island nations, and a "Ten Questions for Every Candidate" campaign for the 2026 general election.
