888 Co-operative Causeway

888 Co-operative Causeway is a not-for-profit member-run co-working space at Level 5, 306 Little Collins Street, Melbourne — the first registered co-operative co-working space in Victoria, founded in 2018. It describes itself as "a network of micro-organisations and freelancers active in the social economy."

Antony McMullen (who presented at a 2020 Designing Open Democracy podcast on economic democracy) chairs the organisation.

What it offers

Workspace: Hot desks, permanent desks, and private offices for social economy workers — co-operatives, not-for-profits, social enterprises, and freelancers. Membership includes access to the Kelvin Club (a Melbourne members' club) and reciprocal access to Good Vibes Co-working in Sydney (Australia's other co-operative co-working space).

Podcast — The Co-operative Way: A regular podcast covering cooperative and mutual enterprise in Australia and internationally, featuring interviews with seasoned and emerging co-operators. Available via Patreon or with cooperative membership.

Events: Regular programming on social and solidarity economy topics, building a practitioner network across Victoria.

Co-op Incubator (2018–2020)

McMullen also co-founded the Co-op Incubator (incubator.coop) in 2017, an online cooperative startup accelerator with a four-stage FOFO framework (Forming, Organising, Funding, Operating). It collaborated with The New School (New York) and Mondragon University on a Platform Co-op Now Accelerator. The incubator wound down in 2020.
